Good People @ Jun 24, 2011
We live in an online world almost anything can be done online and job searching is no exception. Using the internet to try and find a job is quick, easy and gives you access to a large number of vacancies. However with these benefits come the dangers, there are people who will try to steal your personal information while you search online so here is some tips to help protect yourself while job searching:

- Be weary of any e-mails you receive from free e-mail accounts (such as g-mail or hotmail) it is very unlikely that a legitimate company will use such an address. Most companies will have there own e-mail accounts (www.name@company.com)

- If you post your CV to a public database make sure you limit the amount of personal information on the CV such as only listing your e-mail and not your address, phone number, ect. Companies that are interested can always ask for more information latter on.

-  Be aware of sights that redirect you to over sites that are slightly different these can be scammers 'phishing' for your personal information this is when they re-direct you to what appears like an official site but is really a copy to get you to input private information.

- At no point during an application should the recruiter ask for money so if they ask for cash or card information they are most likely scammers. Only once you have the job and have started should they ask about request your bank details so they can pay your salary direct to your account.

- Do not include the names and address of your references on your CV instead write 'references available on request' you would want your details told to anyone advertising a job so don't do it to them.

- Finally use your gut, if a job seems 'too good to be true' then it probably is.
